MORE BIG EARED BABIES!! Yup, that's right. We not only have one eared baby now but five! Thursday I happened to switch shifts with Erin so I worked in the morning instead of the afternoon and I'm so thankful because Belle gave birth that morning. I saw she was acting kind of weird but couldn't tell if she was quite yet isolating so I told Teo, who was feeding that morning, to keep an eye on her and maybe bring her in. Sure enough as I'm milking Teo brings her into the barn to give birth. It was a very hectic morning since I had milked ALL the goats and was sort of taking my time with the goats giving those who need it udder balm and such and then I find out AFTER I took the milking herd to Golf for the day that we had a grand dairy tour scheduled that morning. O sh**. As you guys probably picked up on in my past posts since I do the tour every Saturday in order to prepare for the tour I need to have all the goats milked except one (for hand milking) and have six goats held back on the goat walk to be an example of how they come up to the milk stand. I also should have the milk stand area cleaned up as well as goat walk and dogs fed and everything looking nice. As I'm walking back from Golf I see a school bus driving down the road and have this sinking feeling in my stomach there's something special going on that morning. Sure enough a school was at the farm ready for a tour. Teo and I quick grabbed the herd (thank god for Ghiradelli), cleaned up, and grabbed our nicest goats hoping between the six of them some will have enough milk left for the kids. Ugh....stress!! Just when we're getting everything set Belle decides to give birth. Like I've said before, they have such good timing haha. So I go and help her out with the first kid and then go and do the tour. I felt she had another so it was good Teo was there to help grab that one before she left for deliveries. The good thing is it was very exciting for the kids to see newborns like that. Even though it was crazy and unorganized at first the tour went great and the kids really enjoyed it. They were able to see how the dogs work and there was enough milk between Norberta and Jacqui for them to try their hand at milking. After that I cleaned up and went into the dairy for the day which was a nice change of pace. We've been short handed so going into the dairy doesn't happen as often as it used to. But trust me...I don't mind that ; ) I get more goat time!
Lazy Highway nappin on some timothy hay...pretty sure she stayed there most of the day haha
We moved these two kiddos to the "triangle" by Gulch. Snugglin in their shelter
Right after work Thursday Nalani picked Teo and I up at the farm to head to Lahaina to see a play called 'Ulalena. It was beautiful!! It's a play about the history of Maui (it's people) and involved a lot of props and just wonderful music. My favorite parts were the Makahiki, where the people celebrate the God of agriculture Lono, and the scene with the moon. The moon is this bright ring in the air with a woman in it doing cirque du soleil sort of contortions...she's supposed to be Hina, the Goddess of the moon. Nalani said the play was only supposed to go for 3 years but it's going on it's 11th or so now.
Saturday was another tour day and guess what. That morning Rory decided to give birth right after the tour. She was definitely isolating and acting funny early in the morning so I put her in a stall right away. I went in there in time to see her push out her first kid and as I was helping get the sack off his face and Teo asking if he had ears with disappointment I said no and then SURPRISE! He did after all. Haha those floppy ears were matted down from afterbirth and tricked me. O my gosh this baby is cute. I say that about all of them but Pepito (as we named him) looks like a goat wearing a cow costume. His coloring is so funny. He also had a twin brother, a beautiful big black baby with some white markings on his face.
Mama gave SO much good colostrum
Blurry pic but one of my favorites anyway
This morning I got to try out a new church in Maui. It was a really small church off of Kula Highway called Our Lady Queen of Angels. I counted how many people were there for service and it was only 30! I've never been to such a small church but I liked it...it was very mellow. Chelbie from work goes to that church so Nalani thought we could meet up with her. It's also very close to Grandma's House so we had a nice breakfast there afterwards. When I got home Gini had given birth to two more eared kids.
