Today I had the later intern shift. I walked in to the board saying Kate Huff ( /200)....haha apparently I'm one of the animals to be fed. HA HA co-workers ; ) Claire and I unsuccessfully tried to walk Burt. Hershey seems like he'll definitely be going into rut (breeding season) early. He was being pushy yesterday and today was worse. Every time I'd go over by Burt he'd come over to me and try and push me with his antlers...he's got that big rack so it wasn't anything I wanted to mess with. Finally we gave up since Matt said if he's acting like that you probably don't want to bother haha. Him and Burt will be going to Ag Day this Thursday so hopefully the two interns who've had more experience handling them will have better luck. Hamm still wasn't feeling too hot today but we gave him some electrolytes in his bottle so hopefully that'll get him feeling better. I also walked Walter again. He doesn't do too bad besides getting distracted by yummy grass. Christina and I then switched a few signs around and I did a bus tour for a fun group of retired folks from Arizona. Then I finished the day with a bear shift. It was pretty entertaining since Matt fed them their dinner of king salmon. Below is a pic of Patron walking off with her fish. Hugo was the most entertaining of them all dragging her fish to the water and flipping it up in the air. On my way back to the bunkhouse I also was able to get a pic of the late bloomer elk baby born this week nursing from mom.

Yesterday was a rainy intern day but a pretty exciting one. I started the day walking Burt, one of our 3 year old reindeer, with Claire. He wasn't into the bread which we usually use to get Hershey interested but he walked for us pretty good. He's a little skittish but a good walker. We tried walking Hershey later in the day but he was being a little pushy. He loves Kat so she helped us at least get him out of the enclosure so visitors could pet him. Much of the rest of the day was filled with the usual feedings, changing the program board signs, and getting fresh brush for the babies. I also cleaned out the musk ox enclosure since Hamm was having some diarrhea...typical baby. Claire and I ended up doing two bear shifts since we were a little short on interns and Mike and a film crew went in with the bears on the tractor to get some shots for a t.v. show. Below are the film crew on the tractor getting ready to go in. Scott was the intern that went in with them and is standing on top of the tractor.
